EDM BIZ PROFILE: DROPTRACK

I’m always on the look out to find new ways to help young musicians & entrepreneurs grow their business and their brand. That is why it was incredibly fortuitous that Rock Paper Scissors, a PR firm representing today’s featured EDM Biz DropTrack, reached out to me last month sharing more about DropTrack’s story.
What is DropTrack?
DropTrack is a DJ-owned and operated music distribution and marketing company helping musicians, and specifically dance music producers, create a unified presence for their music and brand, and get their work in the hands of the record labels, DJs, and bloggers that can best help them grow their audience and sound. Like many of the best products, DJ and label owner Paul Loeb, CEO and founder of DropTrack, initially created the idea to help his own businesses. As a platform for simplifying and streamlining the process of distributing music to labels and industry insiders, artists can spend more time on their music, and less effort wading through email and social media trying to get their music out there.
According to the Rock Paper Scissors press release on DropTrack, “Loeb describes himself as ‘a big nerd’.” Respect! We love that here at EDM Nerd! But Loeb isn’t just talk; at only 29 years of age, he already is an accomplished musician, playing guitar, trumpet, clarinet, & piano, a DJ, working under the name Really Cute Cats, owner of the indie dance label No Ego Records, and not to mention a prolific web and app developer. It was through this seemingly perfect combination of skills and experience that DropTrack was born.
What Can DropTrack do for Me?
If this has even slightly piqued your curiosity about the platform, you are probably wondering “What exactly can I do with DropTrack?” I’m glad you asked (or that I asked for you). My vague “music distribution and marketing” description hardly does the full extent of the available features justice. With one single tool, you can:
Manage your music in one place, with unique, shareable links
Manage all of your industry connections and contacts (and make new ones)
Build your fan mailing list by exchanging your music for fan email addresses
Create email campaigns to get new music in the hands of your most valuable listeners
Submit new demos to other DJs, music labels, and bloggers on the platform
The power of the platform really is the full range of features and connectivity it provides. Despite being fully contained within one tool, it allows flexible integration many of the web apps you are already using (SoundCloud, DropBox, Twitter, Facebook, etc.). Because this is EDM Nerd, and because my inner systems engineer loves a good flow chart, I stole the diagram below from DropTrack’s blog to show just how simple getting started can be!
EDM Nerd’s Take
Interested in doing a little more first-hand reporting, I decided to give the platform a go for myself. While not needing the full feature set available to producers & music labels, I was able to sign up for a blogger account in minutes. I played around with the artist and label accounts as well, and was impressed with how intuitive and easy to use everything was.
For bloggers specifically, it looks like a great tool to manage music submissions. There is also a great feature allowing bloggers to review tracks for a small fee, adding another potential revenue stream for music writers, while allowing musicians to get much needed feedback. I’ve enabled this functionality on my own account, so we’ll see how that goes!
If you are budding producer, a growing record label manager, or a successful music blogger, DropTrack has something for you. If you’d like to try out a Pro account for yourself, you can sign up using my referral link for an extended free trial of any Pro account.
Big ups to Paul Loeb and the entire DropTrack team for creating an incredibly robust yet simple to use tool to that really enables and empowers artists to take their end-to-end marketing under their own control. Thanks again to Rock Paper Scissors for sharing, and Paul, if you are reading this, let’s nerd out sometime!
